“Wanna go to the playground?”
“Yeahhhh!!!!”
“Ok. I know! Let’s go somewhere we haven’t been in a while! Let’s go to the playground near our old house!”
“You mean the one where we couldn’t pay the rent??!!”
Mama scratches head.
“What did you say?”
“You know. The house where we couldn’t pay the rent.”
“Whuh? Huh? Where in the world did you get that? And more importantly, who have you been telling that we couldn’t pay the rent?”
“Well. We moved, didn’t we?”
Mama puts her hands on her hips.
“Um, for the record we could pay just fine thank you very much. We moved because we wanted to thank you very much. Besides. What do you know about rent??”
And then Hope, age 5, told Mama everything she knew about rent:
mickey mouse, mickey mouse
had a house
couldn’t pay the rent
so he got kicked out
what color was his butt?
