Stayin’ Put

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

~Psalm 32:8

.

Where are we going to live? It’s been a guessing game the past couple months. All throughout I’ve been getting a crash course on learning to trust God with my daughter’s future.

I often think I know what I want, but at times I know better than to even trust my wants. So I’ve gone back and forth: I don’t want to move… but maybe there’s something for us in DC… or somewhere else… and I just can’t see it yet… so maybe I should want to move?? I do believe I know what Rhema needs and that is to stay right here. But God knows better than me, and I want His will.

So the husband and I said, ‘We’ll knock hard on the Massachusetts door, for our daughter’s sake. And if it doesn’t open, we’ll go, trusting that He’ll make a place for us wherever we go.’

God opened a door.

Months ago we were told that there was absolutely no way we could get assigned to MA. (I’ve actually heard that before – we were told the same thing in 2006 and 2008. I’ve come to know that with God, our El Elyon, nothing is impossible.)

We researched, we wrote letters, the director of Rhema’s school wrote a letter, we had meetings, we petitioned all the way up to the Office of the Surgeon General of the Army. We fought hard, and we had a divine Advocate that made all the difference. Again.

We’re not moving!!!

The Army has given us a two-year assignment in Boston.

Don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

God is good, y’all.

  1. My favorite line: ‘We’ll knock hard on the Massachusetts door, for our daughter’s sake. And if it doesn’t open, we’ll go, trusting that He’ll make a place for us wherever we go.’

I am so thankful you’ll be staying here! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Thank you, God!

  2. I’m thrilled for you and your family! Maybe in 2 years somewhere else will be best for Rhema and your entire family but for now I think God knew not to mess with perfection.

  3. Our God is an awesome God. Only because I have a grandson on the spectrum do I know how hard and time consuming it is to get your child in the right programs. To set up developmental therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and whatever else they need and to orchestrate a working schedule. To do that all over again on top of moving…I would not wish that on anyone. I’m so happy for you and your family, but especially Rhema.

  4. Awesome!!! I am so excited for you. This is such a testament to the things God can do when we trust Him fully…and if you HAD needed to move, He would have provided. Somehow. Thanks for reminding me to trust Him completely with my son.

  5. That’s such wonderful news! I know how much this weighed on you. I will miss getting the opportunity to have you in our neck of the woods but am so so glad it’s worked out for you all.

  6. 🙂 🙂 🙂
That’s amazing! I think that it’s so great that you pursued what felt right and trusted God with the outcome!

  7. terrific news! after my son’s diagnosis, I told my husband how happy I was to live in a state like MA that cares so much. I’m so happy you’re able to stay where you wanted to.

  8. Your joy is our joy! I’m so excited for the miraculous provision of God for your family! Such an answer to prayer, and such an encouragement for all of us to keep on praying for our own answers!

  9. That is wonderful news (that I heard from your twin sister yesterday–just realized that she and I have mutual friends–a small world indeed!) Looking forward to hearing about Rhema’s future at Futures…

  10. Well, I’ll be… so glad for two more years of staying put and not having to uproot any further. The eyes of our Lord, ranging throughout the earth, strengthening those whose hearts are fully committed to him! So glad he’s got you covered tonight; me too!

    Loved reading about re-entry!

  11. Yay Nealls! We love you guys and are so proud of you. So thankful to God for his new day for your family. With mercies new every morning. He alone determines the seasons of your life and it is clear he hears you when you cry. May he now hear us shout. Thank you Sweet Jesus! A thousand times thank you!

  12. God is good. Sounds familiar. 🙂

When I got your text, I was sitting with the girls at lunch. Katie looked up in a panic, wondering why I was crying. Happy tears, i told her, happy tears.
